Valiha made in Madagascar circa 1900. Malagasy traditional musical instrument, tube zither made from local bamboo species. Six strings made with the bamboo skin pried up in strands and propped up by small bridge made of dried gurd. Three metal strings propped up by bone bridge and tuned by three bone pegs. Decoration of red and black clothes, tribal bone designs, and decoration of pyrographed foliages. Two brass rings. Items usually made for the Colonial Exhibitions
